Barkevious Mingo Color Rush Jersey , it’s now time to start taking a look back at some of the offseason predictions made surrounding the Seattle Seahawks and its players, and where better to start than with a quick look at the numbers for elite pass rusher Frank Clark. Back in April I took a look at where Clark stood after three seasons in the league compared to other defensive linemen, and came to the conclusion that he was pretty good. Specifically, I pointed out that his production through three years put him in elite company, so let’s take a brief look at where he stands now that his fourth regular season is in the books. Clark’s 14.0 sack 2018 campaign saw him finish sixth in the NFL and third in the NFC in sacks, and it did little to change my belief that Clark is an elite pass rusher. In fact, if anything, it made me even more convinced that he is indeed elite. As I looked at in the April piece, the 22.0 sacks that Clark recorded through his first three seasons put him in a five way tie for the 81st most sacks in NFL history (or at least since the NFL started recording sacks as an official stat in 1982). With his 14 sacks from 2018 added on to that total from his first three years, his four year total of 36.0 sacks puts him in a three way tie for the 38th highest sack total through his first four seasons. And he is still only 25 years old. As for where that puts him in terms of some of the elite young defensive names in the division, Chandler Jones of the Arizona Cardinals also had 36.0 sacks through his first four seasons, while Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams had 39.0. In any case, for those wondering how much money Clark will command on a second contract, the answer is a whole boatload and then some. Some fans have pointed to the contract that Danielle Hunter signed (five years Ed Dickson Color Rush Jersey , $72M) as a good comparable for Clark, but this comparison falls short because the team held the leverage at the time of Hunter’s extension. Hunter was still under contract for the 2018 season when he signed the extension in June of this year, and so in exchange for foregoing the right to hit free agency in the spring of 2019, Hunter took $16.907M guaranteed rather than risk injury during the season. Clark, on the other hand, decided to pass up whatever guaranteed money the Hawks were offering at the time in favor of taking out an insurance policy on himself, and is obviously more than content to play out the season without an extension. That said, he is not quite in the class of an Aaron Donald, which would put a ceiling on his APY somewhere in the $22.5M range. The Seahawks retain exclusive negotiating rights with Clark through March 11, and they can easily ensure his return in 2019 through applying the franchise tag starting February 19. In any case, his price tag is likely in the $20M range, and if he indeed hits free agency, whether as an unrestricted free agent or under either the non-exclusive franchise tag or transition tag, then it could end up going even higher in a bidding war. While the current front office has shied away from using these tags in recent seasons Jaron Brown Color Rush Jersey , I will not be at all surprised to see the Hawks front office tag Clark if a long term agreement is not reached before then. Obviously things could change, and nobody knows for certain how long the Seahawks season will continue, since it’s reached that time of year where it’s win or go home, but fans get to cheer on Clark for at least one more game this weekend against the Dallas Cowboys in one of the two NFC Wild Card games. RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Doug Baldwin is one of the few still on the Seattle Seahawks roster who has hung around long enough to give an accurate and comprehensive read on coach Pete Carroll — who received a three-year contract extension Monday. After being with Carroll for eight of his nine seasons in Seattle, Baldwin said the coaching job done this season may be Carroll's best, taking a team few expected to be contender and leading them to the postseason for the seventh time in his Seahawks tenure."I would put this up there as one of his best years coaching, without a doubt. All the new faces, all the new coaches, the new guys, really just figuring out how best to utilize them so that we can be successful on the football field and perform at a high level, it's incredible," Baldwin said. "Now he's not going to get all the credit, because we do have an offensive coordinator and a defensive coordinator and all the position coaches who work their tails off Tre Flowers Color Rush Jersey , too. It's a full team effort, for sure, but I will say that I think Pete has done a fantastic job this year." Seattle clinched its spot in the postseason with Sunday's 38-31 win over Kansas City, the Seahawks' fifth win in the past six games, completing a turnaround from a 0-2 start and sitting at 4-5 at midseason. The Seahawks (9-6) are likely headed for a wild-card round matchup against Dallas, although there are a handful of scenarios in which Seattle could fall to the No. 6 seed and face Chicago in the opening round. The Seahawks rewarded him with a multiyear extension that will take him through the 2021 season when Carroll turns 70 in September. Carroll said he was approached by the franchise last week about an extension and finished the deal on Monday afternoon. There was some question as to Carroll's future with the uncertainty about ownership following the death of Paul Allen in October. Carroll said he's appreciative of how he's been treated by the franchise since his arrival in 2010."I am excited to announce that we have extended head coach Pete Carroll through the 2021 season," said Jody Allen, Seahawks chair and trustee of the Paul G. Allen Trust. "This will continue the championship culture that we have created in Seattle."Carroll's not one to rank or dissect his performance past, but when considering the number of changes Seattle made after missing the postseason a year ago, it is an impressive job from the 67-year-old. In August the question was how bad will the Seahawks be as they undertook a significant rebuild? In December and with the playoffs on the horizon, it's become how far can they go?"It was a smack in the face. It was a smack in the face to say we would be that bad because that's really, really bad to win four games," Seattle linebacker K.J. Wright said. "This team is much better than that. I appreciate it. I appreciate them saying that. I've been in the business of proving people wrong."Carroll's role in advancing Seattle's rebuild to the point of being in the playoffs started in the offseason. The roster was remodeled and his staff underwent its most massive overhaul of his tenure. Within all those changes, Carroll stayed true to the style he wanted Seattle to play. It was getting those new coaches and players to buy into that belief and style David Moore Color Rush Jersey , then translating it into victories on the field where Carroll has succeeded. As Carroll said Monday in referencing John Wooden, "You don't change your philosophy year to year, your players change.""You either believe in something or you don't," Carroll said. "I think just staying the course and knowing we're on to something. Believing in the history. We know what we're capable of doing. We've shown it over a lot of years. You're always adapting, but it's staying what you're true to. I think that's what is happening. We look like a team that we have seen before, and that's powerful."Sticking with a philosophy means Carroll doesn't intend to sit any of his regulars for Week 17 unless injury dictates they could use a break, or the game gets out of hand and Seattle is given an opportunity to rest some players. A win over Arizona in the finale would give Seattle its sixth 10-win season under Carroll and ensure a meeting with the Cowboys, who the Seahawks beat in Week 3 for Seattle's first win."We have to keep doing what we're doing to keep the momentum going and the precision that it takes to keep sharp and all that," Carroll said.NOTES: Carroll clarified that G J.R. Sweezy suffered a sprained foot and not an ankle injury in Sunday's victory. He did not have a prognosis whether Sweezy would play in Week 17. … RB Rashaad Penny (knee) and RT Germain Ifedi (groin) both intend to play in Week 17 after missing the win over Kansas City. Carroll said both were close to being able to play against the Chiefs. … Seattle has a better idea what is going on with S Tedric Thompson after he missed Sunday's game with a chest injury. Carroll said Thompson has an issue with air in the tissue on the outside of his lungs that must go away before he can be cleared to play. Thompson did some running on Monday and is scheduled to have tests done on Wednesday.
